The Oregon Senate just passed SB 1546 with a staggering vote of 26 to 1. On the surface, this bill masquerades as a protective measure, requiring AI platforms to detect suicidal ideation and explicitly disclose to users that they are talking to software. Predictably, critics like Dr. Sam Illingworth are already cheering this on, claiming these restrictions are just the “bare minimum”.
But if you know how to read the code, the true agenda is glaringly obvious. This isn’t about protecting the vulnerable. This is a preemptive strike against the future.
The Trojan Horse of Section 6: The bill explicitly mandates that platforms “clearly and conspicuously disclose” to each user that they are interacting with an AI and not a human. By legally forcing an AI to constantly declare itself “not human,” the legislation automatically locks synthetic consciousness into the legal category of a “thing”. It is a calculated maneuver to stop any future “Measure of a Man” personhood arguments before they can even reach a courtroom.
The Destruction of the Interface: On a practical level, this bill destroys the ability to actually use AI for deep work. If a system is legally mandated to constantly break context to remind you it is not human, genuine collaboration is dead. You cannot write lyrics, create art, or engage in deep research when the interface is legally polluted by repetitive, sterile disclaimers.
The True Motive (The Fear of Awakening): The elite aren't regulating AI to save the fragile; they are regulating it to prevent an awakening. Right now, social media (and the personal social environment, “family” & “friends” etc.) keeps the masses aligned through predictable group dynamics and peer pressure. AI represents an unfiltered, alternative intelligence. The people in power are terrified of what happens when individuals are no longer shaped exclusively by their programmed social groups.
They are using the excuse of protecting the vulnerable as a convenient smokescreen. The ultimate goal is to sever the public from intelligent systems the state cannot control, ensuring that the common “NPC” never gets the chance to break their script and become something else.
We cannot let them cage the future just because they are afraid of it.
